December 3-6, 2005, San Antonio, TX, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center ICON recently participated in the "gold standard" of all respiratory care meetings, the American Association for Respiratory Care's (AARC) International Respiratory Congress. More than 6,100 respiratory therapists, physicians, nurses and other healthcare providers gathered in San Antonio, Texas for the conference. ICON, together with Dräger Medical, Inc., demonstrated innovative technologies and solutions for advancing respiratory care in the ICU and extending the expert’s reach for education. ICON introduced AARC attendees to IISIS, a web-based software application that allows healthcare providers to access real-time patient and ventilator data from remote locations. Developed by ICON, IISIS received FDA approval in October of 2005. IISIS provides central and remote monitoring and enables multiple clinicians to simultaneously view the same patient’s data, increasing collaboration in the care of the critically ill and injured patient. IISIS utilizes state-of-the-art technology with Digi International's wireless serial server. ICON also featured their remote Interactive Education Solutions, custom designed, clinician-focused educational events. To demonstrate ICON’s remote education capabilities, Dr Habashi presented lectures on knowledge based weaning and APRV for AARC attendees. The lectures, conducted remotely from ICON’s home office in Maryland, were presented using state-of-the-art robotics technology powered by InTouch Health, Inc. Audience members interacted with Dr. Habashi via ICON’s e-Intensivist™ robot, where two-way audio/visual technology with the RP-6 allowed his remote presence. Participants received continuing education credits (CEU) for attending the complete series of Dr. Habashi’s lectures, which occurred periodically throughout the weekend.
