Gambro signs agreement to provide customers with 24-hour access to critical care experts

Gambro has signed an agreement with Intensive Care On-line Network (ICON) to provide its intensive care customers with 24-hour access to critical care experts.

March 2007

Gambro customers can now call a toll-free number and talk directly with intensive care physicians, nurses, critical care PharmD, respiratory therapists, nutritionists, and information technology specialists.

“By partnering with ICON, we can provide enhanced clinical support to intensive care customers who purchase our Continuous Renal Replacement Therapy (CRRT) machines,” says Nick Mendez, Gambro President, Americas. “We recognize that the Intensive Care Unit (ICU) is a hectic place and nurses and physicians are working long hours with less and less staff.  Now, if they need help with any aspect of providing CRRT, they can pick up the phone and call ICON.”

Gambro’s CRRT machines take over some functions of the kidneys after the kidneys have been acutely damaged by lack of blood flow, trauma, or other causes. This therapy is performed in hospital intensive care units (ICUs).

Gambro believes that providing intensive care customers with access to multidisciplinary expertise will improve patient outcomes and reduce complications in the ICU. These resources will fill an important need resulting from a national shortage of intensive care specialists. ICON leverages the expertise of its staff to Gambro customers 24 hours a day, seven days a week.

“ICON’s expertise in intensive care medicine focuses on the broad perspectives of patient care. Because patient complexity goes well beyond the high-tech equipment they may need, we take the whole patient into account,” says Penny Andrews, Critical Care Nurse and Corporate Operations Coordinator for ICON.
