ICON supports the new Dräger Carina Ventilator

ICON extends 24x7 support to now include the Dräger Carina ventilator launched by Dräger Medical, Inc.

June 2009

Dräger Medical has announced its newest ventilator, the CarinaThe Carina is a clever choice offering both invasive and non-invasive capabilities in one device. Dräger has integrated their latest technology, “Sync Plus” in the Carina to compensate for leakage while providing effective gas delivery. With automatic termination criteria, the Carina is able to synchronize ventilation to the patient’s work of breathing during alterations in breathing patterns or leaks. The Carina is a multi-purpose ventilator adaptable to the emergency department, intensive care and intermediate care units, sub-acute or long term care facilities as well as disaster recovery scenarios. With an internal battery and the ability to operate without a high pressure gas source, the Carina is whisper quiet yet robust.

With this latest technology, Dräger Medical has included their enhanced and exclusive partnership with Intensive Care On-line Network (ICON) to provide 24x7 clinical and educational support.  ICON has supported Dräger Evita Series ventilator customers in the US and Canada beginning in September 2001 and has since extended support to Savina and Babylog ventilator customers. The Carina now follows with this exceptional, one of a kind clinical support for Dräger customers. ICON’s multi-professional staffed Critical Care Resource Center provides immediate live support for users of Dräger Evita, Savina, Babylog 8000+ and, now, CARINA ventilators. ICON clinicians are certified and trained in the use of these Dräger ventilators and are available 24x7 to answer questions about the equipment, assist in troubleshooting alarms. With the increasing shortage of healthcare providers in addition to the number of mechanically ventilated patients, ICON is readily available to all bedside practitioners. ICON clinicians can even be contacted via live video, enabling a rich, dynamic interaction between clinical staff and the ICON team.

ICON’s multi-professional staff includes intensive care physicians, pulmonologists, critical care nurses, respiratory care practitioners, critical care Pharmacists, registered dieticians and information technology specialists. Dräger customers can receive around-the-clock support from ICON clinicians while continuing to manage patients at the bedside.

ICON provides customer care packages through their website’s “E-learning Center. Subscribers also have access to on-line clinical documents and case studies, educational web conferences, symposiums with continuing education units and respiratory care modules for RCPs and registered nurses*. “This relationship enables Dräger to provide an elite level of clinical education and support that is not available from other ventilator vendors. ICON provides the 24x7 clinical support from simple troubleshooting to the most critical of issues” said Ed Coombs, MA, RRT, Director of Marketing for Ventilation, Draeger Medical, Inc.
ICON provides Draeger customers a support system and resource center that increases patient safety by reducing the number of device errors that can occur in the ICU or ventilator-dependent care unit. Dräger is the only ventilation company among its competitors to offer this level of consultation. “It is necessary for us to have the best-in-class support ICON offers to go along with Dräger’s innovative technology,” continued Coombs.
